What do you need to work on?

I think part of becoming a better writer is recognizing your weaknesses, areas where you need to improve. Having an editor obviously helps, but not all of us have one -- yet (smiles). What do you need to improve on and how will you go about it? If you don't know how to go about it, tell us and maybe we can offer suggestions or share things that worked for us. I'd love to hear and help each of you if I can.

  1. Buffy, first of all, you rock.
Second, right now, I'm dead center in the middle of serious edits that have my head spinning.
When I'm finished (hopefully by this weekend), I'm hoping to pass my baby off into caring hands for beta reading. If you know anyone who may be interested, send them my way by means of my blog please.

I need fresh and insightful eyes to clean up the messy spots.

If you don't know of anyone, that's okay! Have a wonderful day.

  2. Thanks for the compliment (smiles). If you are writing young adult and are not a member of Yalitchat.ning.com, I highly recommend it. It is a great online community of writers who help one another from writing queries to feedback on first five pages. There is also a group for those seeking beta readers etc.The weekly chats, at 9 on Wednesdays, are also very valuable. You just follow the hashtag #Yalitchat on tweet.com. The transcripts are also posted on Yalitchat.ning.com. If you already knew all of this, sorry for boring you. But maybe others who read this post are not familiar with the group and I've found it to be wonderful.
How exciting for you, though. Look at all you've accomplished.Good luck and keep me posted on your progress. Have a super day!

  3. You didn't bore me:) Though I have already done all of those things! And while it's been fantastic, I'm looking for a more intimate swap instead of an entire community.
    YALitChat is amazing!

  4. I need to work on upping the stakes for my characters. I'm torn between making things realistic and making them dramatic.
